Modern Bed Frame and Side Tables by TY Fine Furniture

T.Y. Fine Furniture Buyer’s Guide

If you’re looking for solid wood furniture, your search is over. T.Y. Fine Furniture is here to offer you the best quality pieces, those that last for generations, with designs that are as versatile as they are timeless.

To make your shopping experience with us easier, we've put together this buyer's guide to walk you through the process of choosing a piece, complete with tips and details specific to the T.Y. Fine Furniture brand.

Determine the Size

The first thing every homeowner needs to do when buying furniture is determine the size of the piece, relative to space. This is especially important for large items like bed frames, dining tables, and dressers. You’ll want to leave enough room to move around comfortably–good flow is just as essential as the right furniture size.

Certain areas need special attention, like entryways. Factoring these into your measurements helps ensure your piece goes through without a hitch. Fortunately, all our pieces are designed for assembly and come in parts, making them easier to carry through doorways and tight hallways. Still, larger pieces might be tricky in narrow corners. So, measure, measure, measure.

Find Your Style

T.Y. Fine Furniture embraces a function-over-form approach, focusing on structural integrity and how well a piece serves your space. Our designs are simple, a blend of old and new, made to belong in any room, regardless of trends or time.
That said, there are subtle variations in our collection. Here’s a quick breakdown of the character and feel behind each one:

Enso Collection

If calm simplicity reminiscent of Japanese design speaks to you, the Enso Collection might be a good fit. It showcases two-toned wood and gentle curves, with distinctive joinery that sets Enso pieces apart. This unique joinery not only maintains their structural integrity but also enhances their overall aesthetic appeal.

Modern Collection

This collection is simple and stylish, with all the quintessential features of Mid-Century Modern Furniture–clean lines, sleek silhouette, and tapered legs. With slim legs elevating the body, Modern pieces appear more lightweight visually. This collection also features our most customizable storage pieces. Dressers, for instance, come in various configurations with options for drawer count and leg style.

Essentials Collection

Our Essentials Collection features our most pared-down pieces. No fuss, just function.  In a richly decorated space, Essentials offer visual relief. In minimalist spaces, they blend in quietly while drawing the eye with the warmth of solid wood.

Apollo Collection

Think of this as a more detailed take on our Modern line. Its defining feature lies in the leg placement–the legs are attached to the sides rather than underneath, creating a subtle “floating” effect that enhances visual lightness. To add a touch of suave to your spaces, you have the option of metal details, nickel or brass, or just plain wood.

Sunrise Collection

The gently rounded legs of the Sunrise Collection offer a subtle variation from the prevalent straight lines and sharp angles found in most furniture. This small detail adds a touch of softness and visual interest to your space.

Pick Your Wood

We offer four wood options: white oak, walnut, maple, and cherry. Each wood species is equally durable and has been tested over the years. We have found that not one is superior to the other. What matters most is how the wood is processed. Ours is kiln-dried in Ohio, and we prefer quarter-sawn boards for their stability and resistance to warping. Moreover, we use traditional joinery to make each piece of furniture as strong as possible.

The real difference is the color and grain pattern, and this is how each type of wood typically differs:

  • Walnut: Medium brown to a deep chocolate, with a typically straight grain pattern, although waves and burls may appear.
  • Maple: Light and creamy, it slightly darkens over time and has a fine, uniform grain. Crisp and clean, the type of tones that match minimalist and Scandinavian aesthetics.
  • White Oak: Light to medium brown with distinct rays and flecks in the grain. The undertone is more neutral and cool than warm, which makes it a versatile choice.
  • Cherry: A warm reddish brown that deepens over time, with a smooth and straight grain, although figures and curls may be present.

Types of Wood Offered by TY Fine Furniture

We handpick each board to ensure a more consistent color and grain pattern throughout your piece. That said, wood is a natural material, so no two pieces of furniture will ever be exactly alike.

Choose the Details

Choose the details or minor alterations to make your piece complete and truly yours. Here are a few options we offer, some are complimentary, and some come with a small fee:

  • Most Enso pieces feature two-toned wood ( images often show Enso furniture in cherry and walnut), but you can choose a different combination or stick with a single type of wood throughout.
  • Our standard bed frame design includes wooden slats that work with most mattresses, but we can make adjustments to accommodate a box spring if preferred. Some of our beds also allow for integrated side tables or a different leg material, like the Nelson Platform Bed. Headboard height is also adjustable.
  • For storage pieces, you can customize the number of drawers. In the Modern collection, you have three options for leg styles: tapered wood, solid wood blocks, or sleek steel.
  • The metal accents in our Apollo pieces can be specified in either nickel or brass, or you can choose a more understated look with plain wood. The drawer face on the Apollo side table can also be painted a color of your choice for a nominal fee.
