In 1990, American Leather® was founded on the revolutionary idea that custom leather furniture could be made and shipped in three weeks or less. In the years since, American Leather has evolved from setting a precedent with quick-ship delivery to setting the standards by which all other custom furniture manufacturers are measured.
What began as a small team in a borrowed facility has grown to more than 500 employees in Dallas, Texas, housed in a state-of-the art 350,000-square-foot factory that was expanded by an additional 100,000 square feet in early 2018.
Environment
This commitment begins at the very foundation of our custom-made furniture. Each frame is constructed from wood harvested from sustainable forests and is precision-engineered to create as little scrap as possible. The scrap that remains is recycled or reused by various organizations with whom we partner.
All leathers use water-based pigments, and we offer environmentally friendly leathers made through chrome-free processes. Our manufacturing process minimizes the amount of leather scraps, and like our wood scraps, any remaining leather scraps are either recycled or resold for the production of small leather goods.
All of our furniture styles use soy-based BiOH® Polyols Renew™ foam cushioning that is fully recyclable and available in a wide assortment of firmness and densities. Additionally, since April 2014, American Leather has exclusively used foam, leather, fabric, and Ultrasuede® that are free from fire retardants in full compliance with CAL TB117-2013. Finally, all American Leather foam vendors are CertiPUR certified. Learn more at http://certipur.us/ American Leather and American Forest joined forces in the summer of 2014 with the introduction of our American Walnut + Ash Collection. The first seedlings planted then are well on their way to becoming full-grown trees. And to date, more than 19,000 trees have been planted through this partnership.
