Made the Right Way.
Since 2004.
Solid Ohio hardwoods. Traditional joinery. Organic finishes. Every piece built by hand and guaranteed for life.
"We make furniture the slow way — solid wood, traditional joinery, organic finishes. No particle board, no shortcuts, no planned obsolescence. Just pieces built to outlast the people who buy them."— Tarik Yousef, Founder
Built the Right Way
Traditional Craftsmanship
We build furniture the way it was done before assembly lines — mortise and tenon joints, hand-fitted dovetails, techniques that take longer but last generations. Every piece is built by the same hands from rough lumber to final finish.
Ohio Hardwoods
We source solid hardwoods from Ohio's sustainably managed forests, often from naturally fallen trees — white oak, walnut, cherry, and hard maple within 200 miles of our shop. Slower growth means tighter grain and wood that improves with age.
Timeless Design
We don't chase trends. Clean lines, honest materials, proportions that work in any room, any decade. The goal is furniture you'll never want to replace — and never have to.
Organic Finish
Our food-grade finish was developed with Dr. Ahmed Yousef, an OSU microbiologist — and my father. Zero-VOC, zero formaldehyde, applied by hand, safe for your family from day one. No lacquers, no off-gassing. Just wood you can actually touch. Read the story →
Twenty Years of
Making Things Right
I graduated from Ohio State with a degree in mechanical engineering and took a job with Honda, developing the complex metal forming dies that shape their vehicles. The work was good, but it wasn't mine. What kept pulling me back was high school wood shop — the only place I'd ever worked with my hands and actually made something.
I started TY in 2004 in my basement. The idea was simple: build furniture the way it should be built — solid wood, honest joinery, a finish you'd feel good putting near your kids. The engineering habits came with me. Every joint calculated for structural load, not just appearance.
Twenty years later, we're still a small shop — about ten people in Columbus, one 30,000 sq ft workshop. We still build every piece ourselves. We've never outsourced, never switched to particle board, never compromised on the finish.
That's the point. That's always been the point.
Furniture should be worth keeping. Worth repairing. Worth passing down. That's what we make.
