The finish is available in two categories: Wood Balm made from organic wax and Wood Finish made from an all-natural oil blend.

What is Organic Furniture?

Organic Furniture is part of our core philosophy and founding principles; we won’t provide you with furniture that we wouldn’t put in our own homes.

At T.Y. Fine Furniture, Eco-friendly is a core belief that we have honored and followed since our inception. Early on, owner Tarik Yousef experimented with endless numbers of finishes. Most were so toxic that it was hard to tolerate the application of these chemicals, and the process always seemed to rob the wood of its natural beauty and character. All of our skill and dedication invested in making a beautiful, solid wood piece of bespoke furniture was wasted on common industrial finishes.

Tarik decided to create something new and enlisted the expertise of his father, Dr. Ahmed Yousef a Microbiologist at The Ohio State University. Working together, they went on to create a beautiful, organic, and heirloom-quality finish that would become the cornerstone of T.Y. Fine Furniture. To the best of our knowledge, our Furniture Finish is the only one available on the market that contains food-grade components, and is entirely organic with no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). We enjoy building heirloom-quality furniture, even if it is a little harder or takes a little longer, and we definitely don’t want to expose ourselves or our customers to cancer-causing chemicals.

All the wood used in our furniture is selected from naturally fallen trees in the Ohio, Appalachian area’s managed forests. Our glues are age old milk based blends that have been tested for food contact. We build our furniture this way for many reasons: we want our kids to carry on our furniture-making tradition and have the same environmental resources we had, we want to live a healthy and full life and wish for the same health for our customers, friends and family.

Customers often comment on how much they hear the word "organic" and how often we talk about personal health. We are one of the very few furniture makers taking Organic seriously. You may notice that we carry a wide selection of organic mattresses and bedding. This is not a coincidence. When we opened our first showroom in Columbus, Ohio, we wanted to only carry brands that go hand in hand with our ideals. For us, Organic and Eco-Friendly has been a set of decisions that we have consistently made since day one.

As part of our commitment to building the highest quality Organic and Sustainable furniture using environmentally friendly practices, we have become certified by Green America and by the Sustainable Furnishings Council.

Every piece in our Columbus, Ohio workshop is built by hand using 100% solid wood—never veneers, particle board, or MDF. We source our hardwoods from naturally fallen Ohio trees and regional sawmills that properly kiln-dry and cure their lumber, ensuring your furniture will last for generations.

We developed our signature finish using food-grade oils and waxes with zero VOC emissions. Unlike conventional lacquers and stains that off-gas harmful chemicals, our organic finish is safe for your family and easy to maintain. This makes our furniture ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, and homes where air quality matters.

Founded in 2004, T.Y. Fine Furniture combines old-world craftsmanship with modern precision. Our founder, Tarik Yousef, brings an engineering background from Honda to furniture design—every joint is calculated for strength, every detail considered for longevity. We use traditional mortise and tenon joinery reinforced with stainless steel dowels, not cheap metal brackets or cam locks.

Mass-produced furniture is designed to be replaced. Ours is designed to be inherited. Bed slats bolt in rather than drop in, eliminating squeaks. Drawer slides are soft-close. Joints are precisely cut using time-tested techniques. When something is built this well, it only gets better with age.
