Fine Furniture piece, each is handcrafted from 100% natural hardwood and finished with our organic, VOC-free wood finish—or a stain of your choosing, if you'd prefer.

Commission Process

Commissioning a piece is the best route if you want something unique or your space has very specific needs.

Every commission piece at T.Y. Fine Furniture is handcrafted in the truest sense: built one at a time, in our workshop in Columbus–and installed in your space if needed–by the same team from start to final finish. We've built our entire process around getting your vision right before a single board is cut.

1. Design Meeting
We start with a conversation—in person in our showrooms in Columbus, by phone, or by email, whichever suits you best. This is where we talk through size, wood species, style, and how the piece needs to function in your space, so we understand exactly what you're looking for before any design work begins.

2. Sketch & Approval
Once we've nailed down the project’s direction, we’ll send you sketches or 3D models that show how your piece will come together. Nothing goes into production until you've reviewed and approved the design, so there are no surprises once building starts.

3. Build & Progress Updates
With the design approved, our craftsmen begin construction. You'll receive updates as the piece takes shape, including photos on request so you can follow your commission’s progress.

4. Build Timeline & Delivery
Building a piece from our standard collection takes 4 to 6 weeks, and we aim to finish in under 4 weeks whenever possible.

Commissions can take longer, from design approval to completion. With our small team, more complex pieces require more time to build, depending on the details of the design. Some custom work also requires personal installation by our team, since certain projects fall outside our standard delivery options. We'll work with you to choose the best delivery option for your piece.
