One of our favorite items, the Cactus chair was one of our most unique furniture pieces to date. We were commissioned by the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio to design and build a unique piece that would resemble a traditional wing back arm chair but made with cacti for upholstery. The design process was lengthy and very hands on, requiring an approach unlike anything one would find in a traditional wing back chair. The skeleton structure of this chair was made of over a hundred layers of wood built up in a skeleton method in order to individually support each cactus' root system. The whole assembly was wrapped in burlap and chicken wire and the structure was built to be completely water proof.
This unique item was part of Franklin Park's "Bending Nature" Exhibit, October 4, 2008 - March 29, 2009. Franklin Park Conservatory is located at 1777 East Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. This item was made in tandem with Barbara Arnold of Franklin Park Conservatory.
